Sports Participation Screening Program
Preventing injuries is of great importance to all athletes! By avoiding injuries, the athlete avoids time off the field or time out of competition, while reducing the risk for long term disability. The CATZ Physical Therapy Team offers a Sports Participation Screening Program utilized at the end of the rehabilitation process to determine if an athlete is ready to return to sport. This screening tool may expose deficits the athlete must address and give the physician and physical therapist information needed to determine an athletes full release to sports participation.

The Director of CATZ Physical Therapy, Christie Powell “CP”, recently contributed a special topics chapter, coming out this summer, in the best-selling “Handbook of Orthopaedic Rehabilitation 3rd Edition” by a local orthopedic surgeon Dr. Brent Brotzman, called “Sports specific rehabilitation and functional performance measures for lower extremity injuries: a guide for a safe return to sport”. A screening tool called the Advanced Lower Extremity Sports Assessment (ALESA) was developed by CATZ physical therapists CP and Murph Halasz and is introduced in this chapter for physical therapists, athletic trainers, physicians and coaches to use to determine an athlete’s risk for injury of the lower extremity, and can be specifically used for athletes at risk for ACL injuries. CATZ Physical Therapy also offers this Sports Participation Screening Program to all the local sports leagues and teams in the Austin and surrounding communities.
